According to CoinMeta, Japanese Economic and Industrial Minister Akizawa Ryosuke stated on Tuesday that Japan plans not to release any additional national oil reserves in September and October. As oil tankers that normally pass through the Strait of Malacca are opting for the longer Suez Canal route, it is expected that crude oil purchases in September will drop from 100% of August's level to around 80% of last year's average monthly purchases. Of the national reserves that have already been decided to be released, a portion has not yet been used due to progress in alternative supply arrangements. Utilizing this portion of the reserves will ensure that crude oil supplies in September reach last year's average level. He added that Japan expects crude oil purchases in October to return to last year's average monthly level.
