Ethereum community proposes new deposit contracts for the post-quantum era

According to CoinMeta, Wu said that the Ethereum community has proposed a new deposit contract for the post-quantum era, EIP, which is planned to support variable-length public keys and credential metadata. Different cryptographic schemes will be distinguished using the scheme identifier, with scheme reserved for existing BLS deposits. The new contract will no longer rely on the Merkle and tree of the old deposit contract; instead, it will use the execution layer request mechanism of EIP-7685 to transmit deposit data to the consensus layer. Additionally, an irreversible migration switch has been designed that can be enabled at a preset time and then permanently disabled for the new BLS deposits, paving the way for a future switch to post-quantum signature schemes. Ethereum is currently advancing research on the post-quantum migration of key cryptographic components such as the consensus layer BLS.
