According to CoinMeta, Goldman Sachs warns that Europe may need a natural gas price shock of 100 euros to replenish its winter reserves. As winter approaches in the Northern Hemisphere, natural gas futures prices in the Netherlands soared to 67 euros per megawatt-hour on Monday morning, the highest level since the beginning of 2023. Samantha Dart, a commodity expert at Goldman Sachs, said that if exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through the Strait of Hormuz remain restricted, EU natural gas prices could double from her baseline forecast. Dart pointed out that reduced LNG shipments from Qatar have forced Europe to compete with Asia for available supplies. She warned that if Persian Gulf energy exports only gradually recover by 2027, natural gas prices in December 2026 could exceed 100 euros per megawatt-hour, far above the previous benchmark of 50 euros. Currently, Europe's natural gas storage levels are only 61.68%, which is significantly lower than the seasonal average of 72.5% over the past 15 years.
