According to CoinMeta, the price of Brent crude oil rose by 27 cents on August 25 to around $92.44 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil increased by 37 cents to about $85.38 per barrel. Traders are weighing the impact of new U.S. sanctions against Iran against the contraction of global supply. Although the market has avoided another round of supply-driven surges, the conflict increasingly threatens global oil production and refining capacity. According to Reuters' calculations, countries affected by the conflict now account for more than 43% of global oil production, and over 10% of global refining capacity is shut down. U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) inventories decreased by 3.7 million barrels last week to 289.7 million barrels, the lowest level since November 1982.
