Faryar Shirzad: Stablecoin rewards have not led to a outflow of bank deposits; the CLARITY bill should be adopted.
2026-08-26 21:13:02
According to CoinMeta, Coinbase Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad issued a statement to refute the concerns of the Bankers Association of America (ABA) that stablecoin incentives are causing a drain on bank deposits. He stated that existing data does not support the view that stablecoin incentives have weakened community bank deposits, and from June 2019 to March 2026, community bank deposits increased by $482 billion. Charles River Associates's research, in conjunction with that of the US Council of Economic Advisers, did not find a significant relationship between stablecoins and bank deposits. Faryar Shirzad called for the passage of the CLARITY bill, which would grant banks new authorities such as custody, pledging, lending, payment, settlement, and market making.
