According to CoinMeta, as reported by DCP, GMO Aozora Net Bank, and Abeam Consulting, the "Tokenized Deposits Interbank Settlement" project under the "Fintech Experimental Project Hub" supported by Japan's Financial Services Agency has attracted 43 institutions to participate. The project commenced full-scale verification on August 20th. Its aim is to explore how tokenized deposits (TD) among multiple banks can be settled across different banks on the blockchain. The goal is to move both inter-user blockchain transfers and interbank settlements onto the blockchain, thereby reducing settlement risks and costs through a 24/7 (7×24 hours) RTGS model. Currently, two approaches are being tested: one where a commercial bank acts as the settling bank, and another that uses stablecoins to complete interbank settlements, while also evaluating methods of integration with existing payment systems.
