Unstoppable Domains Abandons ICANN Plan and Starts Refunds
2026-08-27 17:53:48
According to CoinMeta, Unstoppable Domains has announced that it will abandon its plan to seek ICANN accreditation and has begun to refund customers who purchased their original Web3 domain names. Founder Matthew Gould stated that after evaluation, the compliance requirements, application process, and potential bidding costs for ICANN would exceed the expected sales revenue, hence no application was submitted. This decision reverses a commitment made six months ago to apply for accreditation for domains such as zil, crypto, wallet, NFT, bitcoin, and DAO. Gould pointed out that refunds are more commercially meaningful for the affected buyers.
