According to CoinMeta and 99bitcoins, a group of cryptography researchers recently released a draft specification for Shrincs, which is a post-quantum signature scheme for Bitcoin transaction authorization. The draft was co-written by Conduition, Ethan Heilman, Mikhail Kudinov, Oleksandr Kurbatov, Jonas Nick, and a contributor named Remix7531. It describes a design based on hashing that combines compact stateful signature paths with stateless fallbacks. Adam Back also published a Bitcoin improvement proposal aimed at addressing future threats from powerful quantum computers. The size of signatures in this scheme is particularly important for Bitcoin, as signatures consume scarce block space. Shrincs aims to alleviate this burden by providing two signature paths for each public key. The current price of Bitcoin is around $78,700, with a daily trading volume of $27.2 billion.
