Hyperliquid Applies for CFTC Approval to Launch US Energy Sustainable Contracts
2026-08-28 01:03:37
According to CoinMeta, the Hyperliquid platform is seeking approval from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to launch energy sustainability contracts. The Hyperliquid Policy Center believes that a regulated, 24/7 market can help companies manage oil and gas price risks when traditional markets are closed. HPC and Trade [ XYZ ] submitted a joint comment letter to CFTC, requesting a regulated path for energy sustainability contracts in the United States. This request was made after the CFTC began reviewing sustainability contracts other than digital assets. HPC stated that energy sustainability contracts can operate alongside expiring futures, rather than replacing them, and there is no expiration date, allowing traders to maintain their positions. HPC also noted that standard WTI futures contracts represent 1,000 barrels, while the median price of offline crude oil trades from Trade [ XYZ ] is around $1,300. HPC proposed five recommendations, including a technology-neutral framework and 24/7 exchange rules, suggesting that the existing CFTC framework can support energy sustainability contracts.
