Bitcoin breaks through $80,000, driving a rebound in MSTR; Schiff calls it a "death spiral"

According to CoinMeta, the price of Bitcoin breaking through $80,000 propelled the stock price of MicroStrategy (MSTR) to rebound to around $137.40. Peter Schiller (iff) warned that the short-term recovery could mask the risks associated with the company's preferred stock financing model, and once again described MicroStrategy as a potential victim of a "death spiral" due to its reliance on preferred stock obligations and favorable capital market conditions. Schiller pointed out that part of the increase in stock price may be due to short-term replenishment rather than a substantial improvement in MicroStrategy's fundamentals. MicroStrategy's holdings of Bitcoin have returned to a considerable amount of unrealized profit, and U.S. spot Bitcoin (ETF) recently recorded over $3 billion in continuous nine-day inflows, providing support for Bitcoin prices and related stocks. Schiller is concerned that if Bitcoin prices fall significantly, MicroStrategy may not be able to continue to meet preferred stock dividends and other obligations. As a result, MicroStrategy has created a $1.6 billion cash pool for Bitcoin purchases and share repurchases. Although this reduces the direct argument for a "death spiral," MicroStrategy remains highly exposed to Bitcoin volatility.
