According to CoinMeta, Coinbase reveals the architecture and application of its internal AI system “Ceecil”. This system is designed to act as a type of “team member” proxy, possessing long-term memory, proactive follow-up, and judgment capabilities. Ceecil utilizes a three-tier memory mechanism to retain team context, extracts information such as decisions and blocked items from authorized channels in the background, and retrieves historical memories and real-time data as needed when answering questions. The system adopts a layered model architecture; simple queries are prioritized for processing through API or a knowledge base, while more complex tasks are handed over to more powerful AI models. Ceecil can proactively join Slack discussions, send emoji responses, and automatically follow up when no one is handling them. Coinbase indicates that this system is already capable of helping the team handle production incidents and answer expert-level questions, and in the future, there are plans to expand it into multiple AI proxies tailored for specific teams.
