According to CoinMeta, Executive Director of the European Central Bank, Isabel Schnabel, stated that central banks should introduce their currencies into blockchain technology, utilizing the programmability of distributed ledgers to modernize monetary policy implementation, collateral management, and liquidity supply. The European Central Bank plans to launch the Pontes project next month, connecting the distributed ledger platform to existing TARGET services, and will complete the architectural blueprint for the long-term project Appia by 2028. Schnabel mentioned that the European Central Bank is still evaluating options such as adopting a unified ledger or connecting multiple ledgers.
