Ripple Plans to Enhance XRPL's Capability to Cope with Quantum Computing Threats
2026-08-29 10:46:33
According to CoinMeta, Ripple Senior Engineering Director Ayo Akinyele stated that Ripple is enhancing the capability of XRP Ledger ( XRPL ) to address quantum computing threats through a four-phase plan. The goal is to complete the necessary preparations before quantum computing poses a direct threat, while also avoiding disruption to existing systems, assets, and users. The plan includes assessing potential vulnerabilities in the network, testing quantum-resistant cryptography technologies, running existing security mechanisms in parallel with quantum-resistant solutions, and ultimately facilitating the migration of the entire network. If the development of quantum computing exceeds expectations, Ripple also plans to establish an emergency response pathway. Currently, XRPL allows users to change their control keys without changing their accounts, but more extensive upgrades involving transaction rules still require coordination by independent validators within the network.
