According to CoinMeta, the war between the United States, Israel, and Iran led to an increase of $330 billion in global oil and natural gas import bills over the six-month period from March to August 2026. Although the rise in oil and natural gas prices was lower than expected, since the war has not yet ended, the bills are likely to increase further. According to data from the Finnish climate think tank Clean Air and Energy Research Centre, of this additional import cost, crude oil accounted for $164.1 billion, diesel and fuel oil for $73.8 billion, gasoline for $35.7 billion, liquefied natural gas was $38 billion more expensive than anticipated, and there were additional costs of $20 billion for aviation fuel. During this period, the EU's energy import bills increased by $78 billion, mainly due to its high dependence on external oil and gas. China paid an additional $35 billion during this time, while India saw an increase in energy import costs of $22 billion.
