According to CoinMeta, Icelanders are expected to reject the resumption of accession talks with the European Union in Saturday's referendum. Based on preliminary voting data released by the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service RUV, the side opposing negotiations with the EU (27 member states) is leading by a narrow margin of 50.1% to 49.9%. Votes from constituencies predominantly supporting the opposition are still being counted, and the official results are expected to be announced on Sunday afternoon local time. This referendum is seen as a test of the EU's geopolitical credibility, as the EU is currently attempting to accelerate the accession talks process to break a 13-year stagnation in expansion. If the referendum result is negative, it will indicate that Icelanders are not overly concerned about changes in the geopolitical landscape.
