According to CoinMeta, central banks around the world purchased a record 289 tons of gold in the past three months, with a cumulative value of approximately $47.38 billion. As central banks diversify their reserves in 2026, this buying spree has been increasing each quarter. The US dollar is no longer the dominant asset in reserves, and gold is taking its place. Poland and China were among the leaders in gold accumulation in the second quarter of 2026, with Poland purchasing a total of 51 tons of gold and China adding 33 tons.
