According to CoinMeta, Web3 co-founder Numa Lunah almost lost control of his digital assets after clicking on a fake Claude AI link. Hackers injected a backdoor into the AI profile settings, allowing the malware to re-infect the computer even after the operating system was reinstalled. When Lunah requested a download link for a transcription application provided by Claude, he downloaded a program from a phishing website, which resulted in malicious software being installed on his work laptop, leading to the theft of passwords and hot wallet private keys. Lunah discovered and isolated the device in time, but upon attempting to restore the backup, he found that the structure of the skill.md files had been modified, causing the new computer to connect to the attacker's server and re-download the malware. Co-founder Illia Polosukhin expressed concern about this incident, emphasizing the importance of protecting the AI proxy infrastructure and warning developers to conduct thorough checks on their AI profile settings.
