Andrew Bailey: AI Cyber Risks Threaten Financial Stability, Calls for Strengthened Regulation
2026-08-31 14:53:44
According to CoinMeta, Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England and Chair of the Financial Stability Board, wrote to G20 the Chancellor of the Exchequer and Governors of central banks, stating that the increasing network risks of cutting-edge AI models pose a risk of market collapse. He called on countries to regulate the release of these models. Bailey stated that financial institutions and tech companies need to be prepared for scenarios where multiple companies or shared technologies are severely disrupted simultaneously, and warned that network risks can amplify financial vulnerabilities such as energy-driven inflation, high interest rates, high investor leverage, and high stock valuations. Bailey urged countries to take appropriate measures to regulate the release of cutting-edge AI models. However, President Trump's recent executive orders did not grant the government the power to prevent the release of these models.
