Head of Global Financial Stability Regulatory Agency Warns G20: AI Poses a Threat to the Financial System
2026-08-31 14:58:06
According to CoinMeta, heads of global financial stability regulators have warned that the threat posed by cutting-edge artificial intelligence models to cyber security is increasing the risk of market collapse, and they are calling on more countries to impose controls on this technology. Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England and Chair of the Financial Stability Board, stated in a letter to G20 finance ministers and central bank governors that financial services companies and tech groups must be prepared for a scenario where "multiple companies or shared technologies are simultaneously subjected to more severe disruptions." Bailey pointed out that the cyber risks associated with artificial intelligence are exacerbating the existing vulnerabilities in the financial system, including energy-driven inflationary pressures, rising interest rates, increased investor leverage, and high stock valuations. He urged more countries to take "appropriate measures" to regulate the release of new, cutting-edge artificial intelligence models.
