The Bank of Israel may suspend interest rate cuts this week, with economists holding divergent views

According to CoinMeta, and based on a survey by Reuters, most economists believe that the Bank of Israel may pause interest rate cuts this week, but some also expect the central bank to lower rates again. The Bank of Israel's Monetary Policy Committee will announce its interest rate decision on Tuesday. Among the 14 economists surveyed by Reuters, 8 predict that rates will remain unchanged, while 6 expect another 25 basis point cut to 3.25%. The current benchmark interest rate is 3.5%, which is the lowest level since the end of 2022. Most economists argue that, given Israel's annual inflation rate of only 1.5%, which is within the official target range of 1% to 3%, and with the shekel strengthening helping to curb price pressures, there is still a rationale for the central bank to cut rates.
