According to CoinMeta, due to a hacker attack, the Cronos network suspended block production, and the attackers withdrew approximately $75 million in assets from the decentralized lending protocol Tectonic. Independent researcher Weilun Li estimates that the assets affected by the incident are around $75 million. Since then, no restart plan or compensation framework for depositors has been announced. Tectonic warns users not to interact with the protocol during the investigation period. Despite the suspension of the Cronos network, the main applications and centralized exchanges of Crypto.com are still operational. Li indicates that the attackers took advantage of the governance tokens of Tonic and Tectonic, which have a leverage factor of 20%. The attackers drove up the price of Tonic by about 100 times in about 20 minutes and deposited the inflated tokens, before borrowing other assets from Tectonic. Li initially estimated that $66 million in assets were affected, with about $6 million reaching Ethereum before the Cronos network validators suspended block production. As of after the incident, the recovery of assets on the Cronos network has not yet been confirmed.
