Elon Musk: The global AI power gap will reach 15 gigawatts by 2027
2026-09-01 23:22:18
According to CoinMeta, Musk stated in his speech on G20 that the global development of AI is facing power constraints. It is estimated that by 2027, there will be a shortage of at least 15 gigawatts of electricity required for AI chip production. He pointed out that the annual production capacity growth rate of AI chips is about 40%-50%, while in regions outside of China, the annual growth rate of power supply is only about 10%-20%. In addition, Google and Anthropic rent computing power from SpaceX because SpaceX builds its own power plants to rapidly expand capacity. Musk believes that China has sufficient electricity, but due to GPU export controls, other countries that build large-scale power infrastructure and host AI data centers can gain new points of growth through taxes and fees.
