According to CoinMeta, Wu said that on August 31st, U.S. Democratic Representative Eugene Vindman introduced the bill Sell Your Stocks or Step Down Act ( H.R.10199 ), which proposes to prohibit the President, Vice President, members of Congress, senior administrative officials, federal judges, and some of their family members from holding or trading stocks, digital assets, commodities, futures, prediction market contracts, and related derivatives. The bill requires these individuals to sell the restricted assets within 30 days after it takes effect, but they are allowed to hold U.S. Treasury bonds, state and municipal bonds, and qualified diversified exchange-traded funds, among others. Those who fail to sell by the deadline may face a daily fine of up to 10% of the market value of the non-compliant assets, with a maximum cumulative fine of 50% of the value of the traded assets. In addition, they must pay a fine equivalent to the value of the traded assets plus $10,000, and surrender any related profits. Currently, the bill is only in the stage of being introduced in the House of Representatives and referred to a committee for review.
