JPMorgan Chase: Visa Transaction Classification Error May Affect Credit Card Rewards
2026-09-02 08:23:13
According to CoinMeta, according to a survey by The Block, users of Robinhood Wallet and the social trading app FOMO can directly purchase meme coins such as WIF using Visa and Mastercard credit cards, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay, without the need to complete any additional KYC. Practical tests have found that these transactions are classified as "digital goods/media" rather than the typical cryptocurrency transaction category required by credit card networks, so users can still receive normal credit card points or cashbacks. Chase, a subsidiary of JPMorgan Chase, stated that it believes the Visa transaction classification in the test is incorrect and should not qualify for credit card rewards, and has submitted a report to Visa. The Office of the Attorney General of New York State also mentioned that they are reviewing this matter.
