According to CoinMeta, as disclosed by attorney Ariel Givner, the crypto hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger has faced a class-action lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The plaintiffs Douglas Kim accuse Ledger of failing to adequately protect customers' personal identification information (PII) and of not promptly disclosing a data breach that occurred in December 2023. The complaint states that this incident allowed hackers to obtain sensitive information such as customers' names, email addresses, and phone numbers, and they used this information to impersonate Ledger in order to trick users into approving fraudulent crypto transactions. The plaintiffs also cited a data breach in 2020 that affected approximately 270,000 customers, accusing the company of long-standing issues with security and information disclosure.
