a16z: Blockchain performance evaluation criteria should shift from transaction speed to the predictability of transaction processing

According to CoinMeta, analysts from a16z point out that transaction processing speed is no longer the main criterion for evaluating the feasibility of blockchain networks. Instead, predictability of transaction processing under high loads and during failures is more critical. Over the past five years, the throughput of mainstream blockchains has increased from 25 transactions per second to over 3,400 transactions per second, with some blockchains even reaching tens of thousands of transactions per second. However, the speed does not provide traders with any information on when their transactions will be processed. A one-second delay is unacceptable in a volatile market, and delays in order cancellation can result in others trading at outdated prices. Market makers who widen price spreads harm participants. a16z has proposed the concept of "strong chain quality" to ensure that users can place orders without relying on a single operator, and that these orders are promptly included in the network once they are submitted.
