New Russian Regulations: Crypto Mining Facilities Must Apply for Fourth-Class Power Supply to Connect to the Grid

According to CoinMeta, based on Russian Government Resolution No. 1300 and statements from the Ministry of Energy, cryptocurrency mining facilities and operators of mining infrastructure will now only be able to apply for grid connection according to the fourth category of power supply reliability levels. This means that in times of tight power supply or deteriorating system operating conditions, these facilities may be prioritized for power cuts to ensure the power supply for other users. The fourth category of power supply level was introduced in February this year, allowing eligible facilities to connect to the grid in areas with power shortages, but they must accept the risk of potential power interruptions at any time. The new regulations also apply to mining facility power connection applications that were previously submitted but not yet completed. The Russian Ministry of Energy stated that these new rules will also improve the efficiency of utilization of existing grid facilities.
