XRP Ledger Foundation Vulnerability Fix: Supply Fixed at 100 Billion Coins
2026-10-12 08:50:10
According to CoinMeta, XRP Ledger Foundation tweeted that the supply of XRP was fixed at 100 billion coins at the launch of the ledger, and no additional coins were allowed to be issued through any transactions. A vulnerability discovered recently was a way to bypass this rule, which was fixed in version 3.4.1 two weeks ago. Currently, there are approximately 99.986 billion XRP coins in circulation, and the supply will experience deflation after transaction fees are destroyed. The foundation stated that ordinary payments would not trigger this vulnerability; it would require hundreds of deliberately constructed transactions to do so. Since making the fix public would expose the vulnerability, the community, Ripplex, core developers, and validators agreed to release a patch directly. The foundation shared the build version with default UNL validators, and the public binary file was released on September 25th. Version 3.4.1 still requires a vote by validators; it will only become a mandatory requirement after receiving support from over 80% of validators and remaining in effect for two consecutive weeks.
