Ledger Spyware Panic Spreads Beyond Southeast Asia

CoinMeta data: The panic over spyware, identified by the code Ledger, has spread beyond Southeast Asia. Multiple cases of Ledger wallets being tampered with and fitted with physical spyware have been discovered in Asia, Europe, and South America. Users of hardware wallets sold by a distributor from Malaysia, identified by Cryptobilis, lost over 86 million US dollars last week. The former CEO of Gox, Mark Karpel, discovered that the spyware implanted in certain Ledger devices was capable of recording mnemonic phrases without being detected. Ledger confirmed that the incident on October 9th affected a “limited” number of devices sold by Cryptobilis and warned distributors to purchase products only through authorized channels. In addition, users who claim to be semi-professional airdrop farmers reported finding spy implants in devices purchased directly from Ledger's official German distributor, MediaMarkt. Karpel pointed out that the spyware implanted in some Ledger devices exists in the form of “manual coil antennas,” and users are advised to transfer their assets as soon as possible.
