Oil prices drop 2% as the U.S. turns to Russian diesel
2026-10-13 21:59:17
CoinMeta data: On October 13, oil prices fell by nearly 2% due to the United States relaxing sanctions on Russian diesel, with Brent crude oil prices dropping to $104.63 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate crude oil falling to $91.85 per barrel. Analysts question whether new supplies will be able to alleviate the fuel shortage. The U.S. Treasury Department issued licenses on October 9 that temporarily authorize transactions with Russian diesel, with the authorization valid until April 7, 2027. Although Russia may export 3-3.5 million tons of diesel per month, this figure is still a target and not an confirmed delivery. Analyst Tamas Varga questions whether Russia can achieve this target, considering the damage to its refining infrastructure.
