According to CoinMeta, as reported by a crypto journalist from Fox Business, SEC has approved the listing of binary options linked to key performance indicators (KPIs) of listed companies, involving Coinbase, Robinhood, and Marathon. Traders can take “yes” or “no” positions based on indicators such as Coinbase trading volume, Marathon bitcoin production, as well as Robinhood customer numbers and revenue. Robinhood is expected to become the first retail broker to offer such products. SEC approved this securities option structure, while stating that contracts with different structures may still fall under the jurisdiction of CFTC. SEC Chairman Paul S commented that this move reflects a “new spirit of coordination, innovation, and investor choice.”
