According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Cointelegraph, the Financial Services Commission of South Korea ( FSC ) plans to strengthen cybersecurity audits of financial institutions, having identified security vulnerabilities in 130 of them. The industry audit revealed that 130 out of 555 financial companies have cybersecurity issues, involving 16 previous security incidents. A total of approximately 100,000 pieces of customer information from affected institutions were exposed, including names, contact details, and identification numbers. The affected institutions include the operator Gopax and the cryptocurrency trading platform Prabang. The latter previously disclosed that it was attacked by hackers on October 2nd, resulting in the leakage of some customers' personal information. Under the proposed reforms, large financial institutions will be required to undergo vulnerability assessments at least twice a year. Regulators also plan to enhance information sharing and consider using AI to monitor the security status of smaller companies. In case of urgent threats, regulators may conduct additional inspections beyond regular assessments. Currently, an investigation is still underway to determine whether these incidents are related to AI or whether they were carried out by the same attacker.
