According to CoinMeta, panic selling in the stock market has prompted investors to buy government bonds as a hedge. The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds fell by 10 basis points to 5.089%, while the yield on 10-year German Treasury bonds dropped by 8.5 basis points to 3.3819%, the lowest level since September 9th. The yield on 10-year French Treasury bonds also fell by 11.5 basis points to 4.7619%, the lowest level since October 6th. The yield on 10-year Italian Treasury bonds decreased by 10 basis points to 4.4657%, the lowest level since September 23rd. Prashant Newnaha, a senior interest rate strategist at TD Securities, stated: "The U.S. CPI unexpectedly rose, but then bonds went up, which is quite counterintuitive. The most reasonable explanation is that the sharp decline in the artificial intelligence sector is lowering market expectations for economic growth, making bonds a tool to hedge against stock risks."
