Circle Responds to Competitors' Stablecoins, Claiming to Retain Only 7 Cents per Dollar
2026-10-18 20:45:02
According to CoinMeta, Circle states that it retains only 7 cents per dollar to counter accusations from competitors regarding stablecoins, claiming that rivals claim issuers retain too much capital and make redemption costs high. Circle generated approximately $1.4 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026; of this, 59 cents were used for partnerships and transaction costs, another 34 cents went towards licenses, banking, liquidity, and compliance, leaving only 7 cents in profit. Circle also mentions that each customer can redeem USDC for free, and warns that competitors' models may lead to "stablecoins that distribute everything but do not provide any funds." The competitor Open USD is supported by Coinbase, Stripe, and BlackRock, with reserve income being passed on to participants after deducting fees. Notably, Coinbase is Circle's largest partner, while BlackRock manages the funds holding USDC reserves.
