U.S. SEC Chairman Atkins: Will use existing authority to advance cryptocurrency regulatory framework
2026-10-19 02:47:00
According to CoinMeta, Atkins, the chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), stated that the SEC is committed to establishing a comprehensive crypto regulatory framework and will continue to work towards providing a common-sense, comprehensive crypto market structure for the United States. On September 15th, the Digital Assets Market Clarification Act failed to pass in the Senate, shifting the focus of policy to federal regulators using their existing authorities to provide clarity. During Atkins' tenure, the SEC announced temporary regulatory exemptions to ease some tokenized stock transactions and emphasized the need for more rule-making to build a sustainable framework. The Executive Director of the White House Crypto Council resigned.
