According to CoinMeta, Cryptocom and Novig have filed lawsuits in federal court against officials in Missouri, requesting a ban on the state government's restrictions on their sports event contracting business under the state's sports betting laws. In September, the Attorney General of Missouri, Catherine Hanaway, issued notices to six prediction market platforms to cease and terminate their services, requiring them to stop providing related contracts to local residents, apply for sports betting licenses, and pay a 10% betting tax. Kalshi, Polymarket, Robinhood, and Underdog have not yet filed lawsuits in Missouri to date. Cryptocom believes that their contracts are governed by the U.S. Commodity Exchange Act and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and that state betting laws do not apply. Novig has requested the court to issue a preliminary injunction during the consideration of similar cases by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
