DouBao refutes "Half of China's computing power is used for making sensational dramas": ByteDance only uses about 10% of its computing power for video generation

According to CoinMeta, Liu Xing, the public relations officer of DouBao, publicly questioned the claim that "more than half of China's AI computing power is being used to produce 'satisfying dramas'," stating that the relevant data is "somewhat unreliable." He revealed that only about 10% of ByteDance's total computing power is used for the training and inference of video generation models, and this proportion also includes model development, not all of it is used for producing short dramas. The controversy stemmed from a communication record with investors disclosed by Zhongwen Online in June this year, which stated that 55% of China's AI token consumption was from short dramas and video generation, 24% was used for e-commerce marketing, and software development accounted for only 15%. This set of data has recently been brought up again, and after being spread by the media, it evolved into the claim that "half of China's computing power is used to produce satisfying dramas," and even led to discussions about "the United States creating the future, while China produces satisfying dramas." However, Zhongwen Online did not provide information about the original statistical institution, sample range, and calculation method behind these national data. More importantly, token consumption does not equal actual computing power consumption, and video generation is not solely for short dramas.
