OpenCode Invaded, OpenAI Steps In to Make Up for the Loss: The API Consumed During the Attack Will Be Refunded to Users
2026-10-19 12:40:57
According to CoinMeta, OpenAI and the supervisor Thibault Sottiaux stated that the team has collaborated with OpenCode to help affected OpenAI API customers restore their services and refund the API amounts consumed during the attack. Previously, OpenCode revealed that an old system that was about to be discontinued had been compromised, potentially exposing the API keys of third-party models hosted by users, affecting 1.4% of Console users. After obtaining the keys, the attackers may have used them to invoke paid models in users' names, and some community members have reported abnormal charges amounting to several hundred dollars. In addition to addressing users' losses, OpenAI also provided Daybreak Blue defense permissions to OpenCode, allowing the vetted security team to reduce rejections in legitimate defense tasks.
