According to CoinMeta, three men were sentenced to prison for forcibly breaking into a man’s home in Bristol, UK, and attacking him in an attempt to steal cryptocurrencies. Police stated that Thor Paul (31), Mohammed Sammagasi (37), and Pierre Mazou (30) broke into the victim’s home in the early hours of May 15, demanding a large amount of digital currency. The victim suffered serious head injuries and required hospitalization. The three were sentenced on October 15: Paul to six years in prison, Mazou to five and a half years, and Sammagasi to five years. The victim’s sister demonstrated “great courage,” and her actions directly led to the arrest of the three criminals. The police did not disclose the amount of cryptocurrencies that the trio demanded. This case is the latest in a series of so-called “wrench attacks” in the UK, where criminals carry out physical assaults against cryptocurrency holders. According to data from blockchain security company Certik, in the first half of 2026, wrench attacks caused victims to lose a total of $124 million, an increase of twelve times compared to the same period last year.
