South Korean Ministry of Finance holds discussion with 5 exchanges: No decision yet on postponing or abolishing taxation on virtual assets
2026-10-21 08:06:22
According to CoinMeta, the South Korean Ministry of Finance and Economy has jointly held a symposium on virtual asset taxation with five exchange operators, including dunamu, bithumb, digitalx, coinone, and streami, as well as institutions such as the Financial Services Commission of Korea. The symposium discussed the current taxation regulations, market conditions, and tax preparation work, as well as the possibility of postponing or abolishing the taxation. However, no clear decisions were made regarding these measures. South Korea's virtual asset taxation policy was established in 2020, with implementation scheduled for 2022, which was later postponed to 2023, 2025, and then to 2027. The National Tax Service of Korea is currently preparing the detailed regulations, and matters such as collateralization ( staking ) still need to be negotiated with the Ministry of Finance and Economy. If the detailed regulations are announced next month, there will be only about two months left until the planned implementation date.
