UK inflation in September higher than expected, strengthening the prospect of interest rate hikes

CoinMeta data: According to figures released by the Office for National Statistics on Wednesday, the inflation rate rose to 3.5% in September, higher than 3.1% in August and also exceeding the 3.4% predicted earlier by economists surveyed by Reuters. This figure not only puts pressure on household finances but also further strengthens the case for the Bank of England to raise interest rates next month. The market expects the Bank of England to raise interest rates by 25 basis points next month, taking them to 4%. This is the first time the Bank of England has taken such action since the Iran war triggered a surge in global energy prices. The Monetary Policy Committee had predicted that driven by another rise in energy prices, the inflation rate would reach 4% in the first quarter of next year, which is twice its target level of 2%.
