According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, President Trump is set to emphasize his government's efforts to combat overseas cryptocurrency fraud. Federal agencies are targeting fake investment websites and criminal networks accused of stealing billions of dollars from Americans. It is expected that Trump and senior cabinet officials will discuss these efforts to disrupt foreign fraud activities at a cybersecurity event held in Washington. The event will focus on persuading Americans not to transfer funds to criminal organizations involved in fake cryptocurrency investments, which often operate through websites designed to appear to be legitimate trading platforms. Officials are expected to describe the government's actions in shutting down these fake investment websites and cracking down on online scams. Secretary of Homeland Security Mark Wayne Mueller, FBI Director Kash Patel, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Todd Branche, among others, are expected to attend. According to the 2025 Internet Crime Report by FBI, the scale of online fraud continues to grow; the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center received 1,008,597 complaints in 2025, compared to 859,532 in 2024, representing an increase of about 17%.
