According to CoinMeta, and as announced by the California Department of Justice in the United States, Fidelity ( Fidelity ), a major asset management firm, has agreed to pay $500,000 to settle a dispute with the California government regarding previous restrictions on users' ability to withdraw crypto assets. Regulators pointed out that from November 2022 to April 2025, Fidelity allowed California retail customers to buy and sell cryptocurrencies but did not permit them to transfer assets to external wallets, which was alleged to violate California's Commodity Law provisions regarding physical delivery. Fidelity denied any illegal activities, stating that the previous restrictions were due to the lack of approval from the New York State Department of Financial Services ( NYDFS ). The company reopened the external wallet transfer function for all California retail customers in June 2025. The relevant terms clearly do not apply to individual retirement accounts for cryptocurrencies ( Crypto IRA ), and such accounts still do not support direct transfers of assets to external wallets.
