AI Investment Worries Intensify, SoftBank's Market Value Could Be Halved from Its June Peak

According to CoinMeta, as borrowing costs rise and investors' concerns about the sustainability of large-scale investments in artificial intelligence intensify, SoftBank Group's market value could shrink by half compared to its peak in June this year. On Thursday, SoftBank's stock price fell by 6.7%, representing a cumulative decline of 50% from its historical high set on June 2. The financial reports of major American tech companies failed to alleviate investors' concerns. The bond prices of the American cloud computing service provider CoreWeave Inc dropped to levels reflecting their credit difficulties, exposing the financing risks of the entire industry and further exacerbating market worries about global AI spending. Nagomi Capital, the head of investment management at Nagomi Capital, stated, "As investors increasingly scrutinize the financial health of companies related to AI, SoftBank's vulnerability becomes more apparent. This is because the group's financial structure is highly leveraged, and borrowing costs are also continuously rising." He noted that if the global market's outlook on the growth prospects of AI becomes more pessimistic, SoftBank Vision Fund could face valuation losses, which could result in SoftBank needing to pay a higher premium when seeking future financing.
