OpenAI Enables Nearly 2,000 Agent to Conduct Scientific Research in Parallel: Analyzing 8 Million Brain Cells in 32 Minutes to Find New Clues to Neurological Diseases

According to CoinMeta, OpenAI in collaboration with the American AI biotechnology company Perturbai and the Scripps Research Institute, managed to parallel analyze data from approximately 8 million mouse brain cells using GPT-Rosalind in just 32 minutes. The research team estimates that if scientists were to analyze each case individually and consult the literature, it would likely take several months to a year. This study found that after disrupting the DCTN1 gene, the genes responsible for cholesterol synthesis in brain cells became even more active, leading to a new explanation: it may not be a lack of cholesterol, but rather an issue with the internal transport of cholesterol, preventing it from reaching its intended destinations. If this hypothesis is confirmed, restoring normal cholesterol transport could become a new approach to protecting nerve cells. Additionally, the study discovered that the two genes TSC1 and TSC2 have distinct roles in the cerebellum; disrupting TSC2 affects dozens of genes responsible for neural signal transmission, while disrupting TSC1 causes almost no change. This provides more specific clues for the study of the genetic disorder tuberous sclerosis, although the relevant mechanisms still need to be verified through further experiments.
