According to CoinMeta, Wen Shilei, the person in charge of commercialization research and development at ByteDance, recently resigned. His next stop may be Octopus Power, a company focused on embodied intelligence, where he will serve as a partner. Wen Shilei joined Baidu in 2011 and served as the head of visual technology. In 2021, he transferred to ByteDance to oversee the engineering research and development of generative AI for commercial applications such as advertising. Recently, this business unit has lost several key leaders; Peng Bingyue, the former head of the commercialization department, resigned in July of this year, and Yuan Zehuan, who previously led Google's operations in China, also left in July to pursue his own startup in the field of world models. With Wen Shilei's resignation, the remaining members of the team have been reassigned to other departments. Octopus Power, Wen Shilei's rumored new employer, was established in January 2026 and is mainly engaged in the research and development of world models for robots, dexterous hands, and data collection systems. As of June this year, the company has raised nearly 1 billion yuan in funding.
