According to CoinMeta, SK Hyper is raising funds to advance the construction of data centers in South Korea, with an initial investment of 350 billion US dollars. The company is in talks with large technology companies and financial investors to raise capital for a data center construction project expected to cost 350 billion US dollars. Despite concerns about future demand in the market, there is still a surge in global investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure construction. SK Hyper has begun to contact potential partners, with plans to build data centers with a total capacity of 15 gigawatts in South Korea by 2035. Chung Suk - geun, the CEO of SK Hyper, stated that the first phase of construction, which amounts to 5 gigawatts, will require 350 billion US dollars, including equipment costs. The company plans to complete the first round of external financing by the end of this year or early 2027 and will continue to raise funds over the following three to four years. Chung Suk - geun added that SK plans to share the overall construction costs with data center tenants and external investors.
