According to CoinMeta, and as reported by the Financial Times, a developer of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Alaska has received financing from Novatek (a Russian energy giant that is subject to U.S. sanctions). Joel Riedel, the former CEO of the developer, stated that Novatek provided funding for the joint venture project and guided its operations before obtaining the necessary approval from the U.S. Treasury Department. Riedel resigned last month, followed by other senior executives. On Friday, Novatek stated in a statement that Riedel was a "dissatisfied former employee" who had been fired. The statement noted that "the development activities were carried out in full compliance with applicable U.S. laws." According to the statement, the company has applied to the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for a license to purchase an unfinished gravity-based structure from Novatek, which is part of the LNG facility.
