Apple launched its first foldable screen device at the “Surprise and Shine” press conference held in Cupertino. This is also Apple’s first major new product since the appointment of the new CEO John Ternus.

When unfolded, this phone is equipped with a 7.6-inch Retina screen, while the outer screen is 5.4 inches. Apple claims that the design inspiration for the new model comes from the multi-purpose experience of iPad, and demonstrated how to use it after unfolding it vertically.

The folded form is more suitable for wide-screen displays.

Apple did not adopt the common "vertical long strip" design of earlier foldable phones, but instead chose a wider body proportion. This way, when watching videos in the unfolded state, the screen ratio is closer to that of common content formats.

The system is being re-adapted for foldable screens.

iOS Version 27 also includes adjustments for new devices. Wi-Fi Control elements will be moved to the side, allowing applications to be arranged vertically on the main screen. Users can also use split-screen mode, fixing videos in the upper half of the screen while handling other applications in the lower half.

Touch ID Regression

This device is not equipped with Face ID; only Touch ID is retained. Apple also supports unlocking it using Apple Watch. Users can also place the phone in a semi-folded position on the desktop for use.

Counterpoint It is estimated that foldable screen phones currently account for less than 2% of the total smartphone shipments. However, with Apple entering the market, market attention is expected to increase significantly. Analysts believe that by the end of this year, their share could reach 25%, as indicated by iPhone Duo.
