The United Arab Emirates is advancing a blockchain integration plan for a national digital identity system. According to disclosures, Avalanche technology will be used within UAE PASS for Digital Vault, with the goal of simplifying the document verification process and reducing manual verification steps.
UAE PASS covers 12.5 million users
UAE PASS is the national digital identity platform of the United Arab Emirates, serving citizens, residents, and visitors alike. The system currently covers over 12.5 million users and connects with more than 350 government and private institutions, providing over 15,000 services.
TDRA in collaboration with Ava Labs to promote integration
This collaboration was facilitated by the United Arab Emirates Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority ( TDRA ), with consulting firms Deca4 and Ava Labs also participating as partners. The relevant news was announced on September 14th, but the new system has not yet been officially launched.
In terms of purpose, Avalanche is not intended to directly replace existing identity platforms, but rather to provide underlying blockchain support for Digital Vault within them. This design is mainly aimed at improving the efficiency of file verification and reducing the procedural burdens associated with traditional manual reviews.
A dedicated Avalanche L1 will be used.
Reports indicate that the UAE will be using a dedicated Avalanche L1 this time. Ava Labs refers to this project as one of the large-scale applications of public blockchain infrastructure in national-level real-world scenarios at present.
The article also mentioned that the California Department of Motor Vehicles in the United States had previously digitized 42 million vehicle property documents through customized Avalanche L1 to improve the efficiency of property transfer.
